Recommended Action/Motion:
recommendation
Adopt resolution authorizing submission of a grant application for the California Department of Transportation (Caltrans) Airport Improvement Program (AIP) Matching Grant for the pavement rehabilitation of the apron at Little River Airport and authorizing the Director of Transportation to accept the grant and execute the grant agreement on behalf of Mendocino County (Little River Area); and authorize Chair to sign same.
End
Previous Board/Board Committee Actions:
By Resolution Number (No.) 20-037 (April 7, 2020), the Board approved grant funding for the Airport Pavement Management Plan Update for Little River Airport. By Resolution No. 23-151 (August 29, 2023), the Board approved grant funding through the FAA’s AIP program for pavement rehabilitation of the apron at Little River Airport.
Summary of Request:
The apron in front of the office at Little River Airport is in poor condition and needs rehabilitation. Disintegrating asphalt produces small gravel which is hazardous and potentially damaging to aircraft. The FAA approved the AIP grant and was authorized by the Board on August 29, 2023. Caltrans DOA offers 5% AIP matching funds to assist airports with local match requirements. Caltrans DOA AIP matching funds are not guaranteed, as they are awarded on a first come, first-serve basis following the award of FAA grants. If the matching grant is received, it would result in a local match decrease of approximately $27,000. DOT requests authorization to apply for AIP matching funds from Caltrans DOA and authorize the Director of Transportation to accept the grant and execute the grant agreement on behalf of Mendocino County if awarded. This resolution will accept the 5% match through Caltrans (approximately $7,500).
Alternative Action/Motion:
Do not approve the Resolution and provide direction to staff.
