Summary of Request:
Both Code Enforcement and the Mendocino County Sheriff’s Office receive numerous complaints concerning excessively loud activities throughout the County ranging from loud parties, animals, machinery, sound systems, and other sources. Presently, there is no enforcement procedure to regulate noise and limit excessively loud activities. Since there is no enforcement procedure, the officers responding to noise complaints have limited tools for dealing with such nuisances. A properly written noise ordinance would provide defined regulations and procedures to manage noise and create an administrative citation process to sanction those making excessive noise. This discussion will help the Board of Supervisors decide if such an ordinance is reasonable, prudent, and worthy of the resources needed to address the noise issues in our county.
