Summary of Request

The lack of access to child care is one of the top barriers for potential or continuing foster parents. Raise and Shine, through FIRST 5 Mendocino, provides high quality child care at The Sandbox Child Care Center in Ukiah. This child care is accessible to children who are at risk of or have been abused and neglected and children from low income families; this center also offers additional supports to foster children with high needs. The Sandbox has been one of the centers providing child care for foster children whose foster parents are waiting to receive subsidized child care funding. The Sandbox also retains slots for Health and Human Services Agency, Family and Children’s Services specifically for foster families on an emergency basis.
