Summary of Request:
San Luis Obispo (SLO) County Probation Coastal Valley Academy (CVA) is among a select number of probation departments that offers a specialized camp program for juveniles (male and female) between the ages of 14 to 17. CVA is a custody commitment program that provides residential treatment programming for wards of the juvenile court who have been removed from the homes of their parent(s)/guardian(s). The program components include intensive case management, evidence-based treatment programming, and vocational and educational services. Program length varies based upon the individual needs and circumstances of each youth as well as progress in treatment and overall behavior. Program length is generally from 6 months to 1 year. The goal of the CVA is to safely return youth to the community after reducing their risk of future delinquent behavior by improving their reasoning and avoidance skills and providing them with positive pro-social replacement activities. The juvenile court will specifically order placement of youth at this specific program based upon a request by Mendocino County Probation. Mendocino County entered into the initial agreement with SLO County in December 2022 with a termination date of June 30, 2023. The contract provides Mendocino County the ability to extend the term of the agreement for three additional one-year terms on the same terms and conditions set forth in the original agreement. The estimated amount includes the program costs for up to two youth, as well as costs not covered by the daily rate of $140.00, such as medication, off-site medical, dental or vision care, transportation costs, etc.
