Summary of Request:
Chabot-Las Positas Community College District provides trainings to local child welfare providers through an Agreement with the Department of Social Services, Family and Children's Services (FCS). These trainings specifically benefit providers who serve Federal Title IV-E eligible children (who are in, or at significant risk of entering, foster care) and their families. The State provides funding for the Agreement with matching amounts from Chabot and Title IV-E Federal child welfare training funds.
Trainings offered through the Agreement with Chabot are collaborative in nature. Chabot works directly with FCS and other local community-based organizations, such as FIRST 5 Mendocino, Mendocino County Youth Project, Redwood Community Services, and new to the collaborative - Tapestry Family Services, to offer trainings that support building comprehensive and consistent skills in providers throughout the county. These skills support families and caregivers and increase the safety, permanency, and wellbeing of Mendocino County's foster children and youth.
Because of their collaborative nature, trainings are far-reaching and engage numerous participants countywide. Participation numbers for Mendocino County from Fiscal Year 2020-2021 serve as illustration of this point - in Fiscal Year 2020-21, Chabot provided a total of 2,415 hours of training and development, attended by 4,836 participants from over 60 agencies, covering over 75 different training topics in behavioral strategies, child development, child/youth care, cultural awareness and responsiveness, family engagement, health and safety, trauma, working with youth in the community and training for caregivers, and additionally over 20 different conferences and learning activities. (Fiscal Year 2021-2022 numbers are not yet available, but Chabot will submit them in a year-end review, due September 2022.). In addition, Chabot also contracts with seven other counties including Humboldt and Lake, which expands the ability for Mendocino County eligible training participants to attend trainings offered by other Chabot-contracted counties on topics related to serving foster youth.
