Summary of Request

Mendocino County is an at-risk region that requires additional resources to address and support county-wide efforts around flood planning, resiliency, and effective response. Severe weather events impacting Mendocino County are high wind, heavy rain, and fog. Severe weather can lead to localized flooding and generate high winds that increase threats to public safety.

If the proposed project is funded by DWR, it will include a local flood emergency plan, updated maps, and emergency communications equipment for the Emergency Operations Center (EOC). Additionally, four flood fight containers will be placed strategically throughout the county to enable improved planning and county response capabilities during climate hazards that could impact infrastructure. These hazards include landslides caused by excessive rainfall, flooding, and severe storms. Please note that a proposal summary is attached for reference, as the complete application was incomplete at the time of agenda submission. Staff will develop and submit the county's application by DWR's deadlines, and the Chief Executive Officer will sign and execute the amendment, applications, and other documents related to the grant. The resolution presented is on a DWR-mandated template.
