Summary of Request:
Mendocino County Department of Social Services, California Work Opportunity and Responsibility to Kids (CalWORKs) Job Services provides employment and training services to recipients and applicants of the Temporary Assistance for Needy Families program (TANF). The TANF program is a federally funded program that promotes job preparation and employment for families to become self-sufficient. CalWORKs Job Services provides funding for job development services as part of a broader commitment to families in need.
CalWORKs Job Services has been partnering with, and co-located with, Employment Development Department (EDD) since 1996. During January 1, 2022 through December 31, 2022, EDD received 104 referrals. The average number of job seekers was 76 per month during this time period, and the average number of Welfare-to-Work (WTW) participants was 484 per month.
Through the proposed Agreement, EDD staff will provide direct placement and/or individualized job development services in order to support CalWORKs Job Services participants who are transitioning to self-sufficiency. Services under the proposed Agreement include assessment of each participant’s employment goals, and assistance with expanding job services by linking transferable skills to broader occupational and industrial categories.
Alternative Action/Motion:
