Previous Board/Board Committee Actions:
On June 23, 2026, the Board of Supervisors adopted the Master Position Allocation Table for the FY 2026-2027 Budget, Resolution Number 26-107.
Summary of Request:
The Human Resources Department is charged, as part of the overall maintenance of the classification and compensation plan, to evaluate current classifications, create new classifications (including appropriate salary levels), reclassify positions, examine requests for salary grade adjustments, analyze allocations, and make recommendations for additions, modifications, and corrections.
At its October 21, 2026, Civil Service meeting, the Commission approved the new classification of Investigative Technician I, and the title change from Investigative Technician to Investigative Technician II.
The purpose of the Investigative Technician series from the single technician classification is to support the demands of departments investigative unit. The District Attorney’s Investigative Unit has experienced an increased caseload over the past year. Establishing a lower-level Investigative Technician classification would provide additional capacity to handle routine investigative support duties, allowing the existing technician to focus on the more complex and specialized cases. This structure would improve workload distribution, increase the Unit’s overall capacity, and support more efficient and timely case processing.
The County has fulfilled its obligation under the Myers-Milias-Brown Act (MMBA) with the affected bargaining unit.
The impact below for the fiscal year is calculated at step 5 and includes the cost of benefits. The recurring cost shown below is calculated at step 5, including the cost of benefits.
