Previous Board/Board Committee Actions:

The Board of Supervisors set up the current structure of the Economic Development Standing Committee on April 13, 2023.

Summary of Request

The current structure and quarterly meetings of the Economic Development Standing Committee makes it difficult for ongoing work and oversight to happen. With two Supervisors on the committee, due to Brown Act considerations, they cannot talk with each other outside of the committee format. Since these only happen every three months, the Executive Office is burdened with the workload that should be directed by the Committee. Without the possibility of ad hoc committees or discussions between two members of the committee, it is difficult to advance ideas or projects. Adding three more members to the Standing Committee or restructuring the standing committee into a commission will give more diversity of experience, knowledge, and representation to the committee and allow for greater focus on the economic development issues and vision for the County.
