Summary of Request:
The opioid epidemic has been proven to be an urgent public health matter in California as well as Mendocino County. Based on data from the assessment conducted by the Public Health Institute in early 2017, the new California Opioid Safety Network Accelerator Program (Coalition Accelerator program) will focus on three core strategy areas: addressing supply; promoting recovery; and preventing overdose deaths. Over two years the program will deliver technical assistance to include intensive skill building and support to increase impact, access to leaders in the field who will provide subject matter expertise on evidence based practices, and AmeriCorps VISTA volunteers to support local coalitions across the state in their efforts to achieve the three core strategies. If the County is awarded the opportunity to participate in the Coalition Accelerator program, it will have access to the above listed resources which will boost the effectiveness of the Safe Rx Coalition, a broad-based group of over 30 community members/groups who are addressing the opioid epidemic in Mendocino County with limited resources.
Alternative Action/Motion:
Return to staff for alternative handling.
