Previous Board/Board Committee Actions:

The Board of Supervisors has annually adopted a Resolution in support of the California Indian Days Parade.

Summary of Request

For the past several years, the Round Valley Indian Tribes have hosted the California Indian Days celebration, which has been held in September annually since it became a recognized holiday. The Round Valley Tribal Council wishes to hold a parade in connection with the celebration. The parade will be held on Saturday, September 26, 2026, between 9:00 a.m. and 12:00 Noon, commencing on Main Street and continuing on Highway 162 through the town of Covelo, ending at Hidden Oaks Park off Highway 162.

In order to obtain a permit from Caltrans for the parade, a letter of support is required from the California Highway Patrol and Sheriff, along with a Resolution from the Board of Supervisors and a certificate of insurance from the event’s insurance carrier pursuant to Caltrans/California Highway Patrol’s Joint Policy Guidelines for Special Events on State Conventional Highways. Therefore, the Round Valley Tribal Council is requesting permission from the Mendocino County Board of Supervisors to hold the California Indian Days Parade in Covelo, California, on Saturday, September 26, 2026.
