Previous Board/Board Committee Actions:

The County of Mendocino conducted initial analysis of a potential project for the alternate access route for Brooktrails. Funding needs of over $22 million were identified for the project, which exceed expectation of available funding in the foreseeable future. After completing the initial analysis, this project fell from a priority of #8 to #47 on MCDOT’s Integrated Work Program Priorities Top 50 projects with no identified funding or program timeframe.  No action has been taken since 2014.  .

Summary of Request

An improved second access to the Brooktrails Township has long been identified as a need. This project will provide an alternate access route to Brooktrails, a Planned Residential Development (PRD) of approximately 4,500-5,000 single-family dwelling units, although not all of those are constructed.  An improved second access would relieve traffic along Sherwood Road, currently the only practical access to the community, and provide an alternative during times of emergency.  Recent fires in Mendocino County have again brought to light the dire need for this access route to be addressed.

Supervisor Croskey requests the Board of Supervisors refer the discussion of an improved second access road for the Brooktrails Township to a committee.  In addition, Supervisor Croskey requests the Board of Supervisors give direction to the Department of Transportation to improve signage in Brooktrails and review the condition of Sherwood Road.

Alternative Action/Motion:

Do not approve the request of Supervisor Croskey.
