Recommended Action/Motion:
recommendation
Approve transmission of letter to the Commissioner of California Department of Motor Vehicles requesting exemption of Title 13, California Vehicle Code, Section 12527(d)(2) for the Anderson Valley Community Service District, Covelo Fire Protection District, and the Elk Community Service District; and authorize Chair to sign same.

Previous Board/Board Committee Actions:
The Board previously approved letters for Anderson Valley Community Services District on July 11, 2017 and March 25, 2014; letters for Long Valley Fire on December 2, 2014 and March 1, 2016; and letter for Anderson Valley Community Services District, Covelo Fire Protection District, and Elk Community Services District on March 1, 2022.
Summary of Request:
Anderson Valley Community Service District (AVCSD) (formerly known as Anderson Valley Ambulance Services (AVAS), Covelo Fire Protection District, and Elk Community Service District has requested that the Mendocino County Board of Supervisors and County Emergency Medical Services (EMS) (as required by Title 13, California Vehicle Code, section 12527(d)(2)) request exemption of certain “Ambulance Drivers” as outlined in Title 13, section 12527(d)(1) from the requirement of obtaining “emergency medical training” within one (1) year of being licensed to drive an ambulance. The request must be from both the County Board of Supervisors, and any one of the following: the Public Health Officer, The Emergency Medical Care Committee (EMCC), EMS Administrator or the EMS Coordinator. Sonoma County will submit the second letter as the EMS Administrator. This ex-emption is necessary due to the limited availability of volunteers wishing to provide donated time and/or service to the ambulance provider in anything other than a “driver” role.
As each driver must apply as an individual with their own letter(s), EMS will facilitate the distribution of the requests to the associated district managers rather than by separate requests from drivers wishing exemption.
Because this letter contains personally identifiable information (PII) this letter is not published along with the agenda summary.
