Summary of Request

On August 17, 2021, the Mendocino County Board of Supervisors (BOS) approved a Prioritized Spend related to projects for strategically investing one-time Pacific Gas and Electric (PG&E) disaster settlement funds, and authorized the Assistant Chief Executive Officer to prepare and bring forward the necessary contracts for distribution of funds to non-county agencies. Agreement No. BOS-21-201 with Piercy Fire Protection District in the amount of $20,000 is among the contracts recommended by the County’s Local Emergency Medical Services Agency, Coastal Valleys Emergency Medical Services (EMS) Agency, and approved by the BOS on the Prioritized Spend.

Piercy Fire Protection District is one of twenty-four organizations within Mendocino County to receive PG&E funds to support its provision of Emergency Medical Services (EMS). Fifteen of those organizations, including Piercy Fire Protection District, provide EMS in a non-transport capacity; the BOS approved each to receive $20,000 ($300,000 total).

Pursuant to Agreement No. BOS-21-201, Piercy Fire Protection District will utilize funding to purchase equipment and supplies to support the provision of non-transport EMS in Mendocino County. The proposed Amendment to Agreement No. BOS-21-201 extends the term of the Agreement in order to give Piercy Fire Protection District more time to utilize the funds. Award of PG&E funds to organizations providing EMS enhances the County’s resiliency and directly facilitates effective response to disaster.

On October 19, 2022, Piercy Fire Protection District reached out to Mendocino County, confirming that they were not able to expend full funding before the June 30, 2022 Agreement expiration date. Mendocino County immediately generated and routed the proposed retroactive Amendment to extend the term through June 30, 2023.
