Summary of Request:
The California Department of Public Health (CDPH) provides funds to the Women, Infants and Children (WIC) program of the Mendocino County Department of Public Health, to support pregnant, breastfeeding, or postpartum women and their children. These funds enable the WIC program to provide services to help mothers and young children stay healthy. Specifically, qualifying WIC participants are eligible to receive nutrition education, vouchers for nutritious foods, breastfeeding support, and referrals to medical providers and community services. WIC provides these supportive services at nine locations throughout the County.
In May 2022, the Mendocino County Department of Public Health submitted a Contract Application to CDPH. On July 25, 2022, Public Health received the revenue Agreement from CDPH, designating funding in the amount of $3,336,315 to support essential WIC program services across Mendocino County for a three-year term, effective October 1, 2022, through September 30, 2025; and on September 20, 2022, the Mendocino County Board of Supervisors approved this revenue Agreement.
In March 2023, the Mendocino County Department of Public Health received the proposed Amendment No. 22-10260 A01, increasing revenue funding by $63,906, for a new total of $3,400,221. All other terms of this revenue Agreement remain unchanged.
