Summary of Request

The Statewide Park Program (SPP) has funds available for parks in underserved communities across California. According to the Mendocino County Parks Needs Assessment, Phase I, Bower Park has several areas which would benefit from these funds. The Resolution will authorize the submission of the application for the grant funding and does not require any matching funds. The Resolution also certifies that the County has the resources to operate and maintain the project and authorizes the Director of the Cultural Services Agency to conduct negotiations and sign and submit all documents.

The grant will request funding to update and replace materials and items which are aging and worn and  includes picnic tables, benches, fencing, garbage receptacles, grills, and ground resurfacing for the amphitheater, picnic areas, softball field and tennis courts. Materials would be composed of as much low-maintenance and renewable products as possible, which will add to the long-term usability, beauty, and safety the park.

The Bower Park Improvements grant would be consistent with the California Outdoor Recreation Resources Plan and complements previously awarded grants for Bower Park. The grant application is for $815,634 and the County would have until March of 2025 to complete the improvements.
