Previous Board/Board Committee Actions:

The Board of Supervisors approved BOS Agreement No. 25-0344 the authorization to award to and approval of an agreement with Ferranti construction, Incorporated in the amount of $566,976.85 for the completion of the Electric Vehicle charging stalls project located at 501 Low Gap Road and 727 South State Street in Ukiah for the period of One Hundred Twenty days from the date of issuance of the notice to proceed; and approval of the Electric Vehicle charging stalls project plans and specifications.

Summary of Request

Electrical Vehicle charging fees will allow the County of Mendocino to recover a portion of the costs associated with the operation of Electric Vehicle (EV) chargers, including operating costs, utility costs, replacement costs, as well as the cost for routine maintenance. Currently the County of Mendocino has one installed Electric Vehicle (EV) charging station and is in the process of installing 24 additional stations in conjunction with a grant from the California Energy Commission. The Facilities Division has prepared a presentation of how revenues from charging fees could compare to the costs of operating and maintaining the public chargers it has installed. The Facilities Division is requesting Board direction for the creation of a County wide fee structure for the use of County-owned Electric Vehicle (EV) charging stations.

Alternative Action/Motion:

Do not provide direction to staff for the creation of a County wide fee structure for the use of County-owned Electric Vehicle (EV) charging stations. Failure to provide direction for a fee structure will cause a significant impact to the General Fund.
