Previous Board/Board Committee Actions:

On October 4, 2022, the Board approved the MOU between the Sheriff’s Office and the Superior Court of California, County of Mendocino, for court security services. On June 20, 2023, the Board approved the first amendment to the MOU extending the end date from June 30, 2023, to June 30, 2024. On June 25, 2024, the Board approved the second amendment to the MOU extending the end date from June 30, 2024, to June 30, 2025.

Summary of Request

The Superior Court Security Act of 2012 (California Government Code § 69920 et. seq.) requires the Sheriff, with approval of the Board of Supervisors, to enter into a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with the Superior Court of California establishing an agreed-upon level of court security services and related operating procedures. The MOU for FY2024-25 expired on June 30, 2025. This amendment is therefore being submitted for retroactive approval. The Sheriff’s Office and the Superior Court of California, County of Mendocino, have agreed to extend the term of the MOU through June 30, 2027, with the understanding that if the Court relocates to the new courthouse in Ukiah prior to the expiration date of the MOU, the Court, Sheriff, and County will execute a new MOU at that time.
