Summary of Request

Coyote Valley Dam is primarily a flood control project, but Lake Mendocino, which is formed by the waters impounded by the dam, is an important recreational destination and a significant contributor to the local economy. Reduced staffing and maintenance have resulted in deteriorating conditions at Lake Mendocino resulting in reduced public safety and recreational opportunities. These conditions adversely affect the ability of local residents and the traveling public to enjoy an important recreational destination, which in turn has a negative economic impact on the local economy. Supervisors Brown and McCowen are requested Board approval of the attached letter requesting the Army Corps of Engineers address the funding, staffing and management issues that are negatively affecting this important public resource.

Alternative Action/Motion:

Approve letter as amended or do not approve letter.
