Summary of Request:
OCLC is a nonprofit membership organization that promotes cooperation among libraries worldwide. Thousands of libraries in over one hundred countries use OCLC services to catalog, acquire, and lend print and electronic library items. OCLC was established to help to automate the traditional library card catalog and became a collaborative venture.
OCLC and its member libraries cooperatively produce and maintain the WorldCat—the OCLC online catalog used by libraries including Mendocino, Sonoma, and Lake County. Ongoing collaboration led to additional OCLC services which Mendocino County Library uses such as WorldShare Interlibrary Loan Services. The Library receives a credit of $20 to $40 every month for participating in the WorldCat and WorldShare Programs. The total cost of expenses and credits for FY 2024-2025 came to $1,688. The Library is asking for approval for the contract to participate in OCLC services and which auto renews annually.
