Summary of Request:
The Behavioral Health Justice Intervention Services (BHJIS) project is a joint effort between the California Department of Health Care Services (DHCS) and Advocates for Human Potential (AHP). BHJIS provides funding to help local communities address critical intervention points through which individuals with mental illness and substance use disorders can be diverted from criminal justice involvement towards a wide array of appropriate services and activities.
Mendocino County Behavioral Health and Recovery Services (BHRS) will use BHJIS funds to build a full mental health diversion program, Crisis Intervention Team Steering Committee, and Crisis Intervention Teams (CIT) within Mendocino County, and identify and share resources to purchase a data-sharing system that eliminates interoperability barriers. The overall vision is to reduce the prevalence of individuals with mental illness or co-occurring disorders in the jail, while connecting individuals to the appropriate level of care.
BHRS submitted the BHJIS Grant Application on December 22, 2021. Award decisions are anticipated to be released by February 15, 2022. If awarded, BHRS will use grant funds for the intended purpose.
