Previous Board/Board Committee Actions:

The role of the Commission is established in Chapter 2.5 of the Mendocino County Fish and Game Code; this role includes recommending expenditures to the Board of Supervisors from the Fish and Wildlife Propagation Fund that are in accordance with the requirements of the Fish and Game Code Sections 13100-13104.                     

 

Summary of Request

The Fish and Game Commission is requesting that the Board of Supervisors approve recommendations for an allocation of County Fish and Game Propagation Funds in the amount of $51,000, which the Commission budget has available for this purpose.   The Commission met on December 13, 2022 and evaluated and ranked grant applications/proposals from the California Deer Association, the Mendocino Land Trust, and the Mendocino Wildlife Association (attached).  During the meeting, the Commission voted unanimously (5-0) to recommend that the California Department of Fish and Wildlife (CDFW) as well as the Mendocino County Board of Supervisor approve the funding.  On February 16, 2023, CDFW responded with support for funding the applications as follows:

 

A.                     $25,000 to the California Deer Association Hammerhorn Lake Campground Restoration

B.                     $20,000 to Mendocino Land Trust- Bear Resistant Garbage Can Program

C.                     $6,000 to Mendocino Wildlife Association - Ridgewood Ranch Fawn Pen

 

Also attached to this item is the response from CDFW supporting the grant proposals (1), the draft minutes from the Fish and Game Commission Meeting of December 13, 2022 (2) and the individual score sheets from each Commissioner (3).

 

Alternative Action/Motion:

Do not approve the funding recommendations of the Mendocino County Fish and Game Commission and provide direction to staff.
