Previous Board/Board Committee Actions:
On August 29, 2023, the Mendocino County Board of Supervisors conducted a public discussion and directed the County Counsel to return to the Board of Supervisors with the necessary actions to dissolve the Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention Commission and designate the court-appointed Juvenile Justice Commission as the delinquency prevention commission pursuant to Welfare and Institutions Code §233.
Summary of Request:
County Counsel and the Executive Office worked with departments to identify existing boards, committees, commissions, and advisory bodies that are not required by statute, citizen’s initiative, or other law. After meeting with Probation and the Court as a part of those discussions, it was unanimously recommended that the ordinance governing the Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention Council be amended to designate the Court-appointed Juvenile Justice Commission under Welfare and Institutions Code section 225 to serve ex officio as the Delinquency Prevent Commission under Welfare and Institutions Code section 233. This change will streamline the appointment process, reduce administrative burden on the County, and bring the County more in line with practices elsewhere in the state.
