Previous Board/Board Committee Actions:
November 14, 2017: Formation of an ad hoc committee (Supervisors Croskey/Gjerde) to discuss issues related to second access roads within the County.
Summary of Request:
The CalTrans Adaptation grant (Grant Minimum of $100,000/Max $1,000,000) is intended to support planning actions at a local and regional level that advance climate change adaptation efforts on the transportation system. The State’s planning and investments need to consider risks from a changing climate, anticipating current and future impacts that are likely to occur, specifically in our case transportation related emergency planning due to fire risk. The ad hoc committee met with several at risk communities in the county and feels a more thorough investigation into and planning for these and other communities is warranted. Other regions have used this grant to look at vulnerability assessments of their transportation network for evacuations. This grant can be used for route planning as well as integration of transit operators such as MTA and school districts during evacuations. An 11.47% local match is required, which MCOG is willing to provide. This is the final year CalTrans is offering the Climate Adaptation Grant.
Alternative Action/Motion:
Do not disband the current ad hoc committee and/or do not approval submission of grant application.
