Summary of Request:
On July 18, 2025, the BSCC announced the release of the FY 2025 Edward Byrne Memorial JAG Equipment and Training Program Request for Applications. The one-time request is a formula-based, non-competitive grant that will cover the period of October 1, 2025, through September 30, 2026. The JAG Equipment and Training Program provides funding to California counties for equipment, supplies, and training initiatives related to select Program Purpose Areas (PPA) in law enforcement, such as violent crime reduction initiatives, drug enforcement, crisis intervention training, and mental health trainings. Mendocino County has been allocated $69,896, collectively. A concerted effort to spend the funds has been coordinated between the Sheriff’s Office and the Probation Department and will be used to purchase investigative equipment, crisis intervention training and de-escalation/mental health trainings, which are all essential to front line law enforcement and support staff.
On August 14, 2025, the Sheriff’s Office sent a letter to the CEO requesting approval to apply in order to meet the application deadline of September 8, 2025, as per County Policy 25, with follow-up to the Board of Supervisors during their next available meeting. The CEO approved the request on August 18, 2025.
