Summary of Request:
This item proposes and recommends that the Board of Supervisors appoint Michael F. Hill as the Mendocino County Public Defender and approve the Employment Agreement between the County of Mendocino and Michael F. Hill to serve as the Public Defender commending on July 21, 2024, with annual compensation of two hundred thousand dollars ($200,00) and total compensation of three hundred and forty thousand ($340,000 includes salary and benefits).
The Public Defender reports to the Board of Supervisors and is tasked with overseeing the Public Defender’s office, which is responsible for providing legal defense and representation to indigent defendants, as well as other individuals deemed eligible for representation.
Michael Hill is a career Public Defender who has risen from the entry level ranks to leadership positions. Mr. Hill comes to Mendocino County from the Orange County Public Defender’s Office with over 25 years of experience. He has handled many assignments in his public defender career and is aware of the dedication necessary to provide excellent representation.
The fiscal details associated with this agreement include the costs of benefits associated with the Unrepresented Employees Compensation and Benefits Resolution No. 24-074
