Summary of Request

Meeting rooms are a valuable resource throughout Mendocino County, and most of the Library branches provide spaces for meetings. Priority for free meeting room use will be given for Library events and related organizations such as the Advisory Boards and Friends of the Library groups. Other governmental and non-profit organizations also may reserve the rooms at no charge. Board of Supervisor approved fees are charged for commercial and private events which do not meet the free reservation requirements.

The Library is rewording its policies since it is no longer a part of the Cultural Services Agency, and the library meeting room fees were approved by the Board of Supervisors at the April 19, 2022, fee hearing. The Meeting Room Policy clarifies the free and fee-based reservations, the requirements for the meetings, safety, set-up and clean-up, publicity, insurance requirements, the reservation process, and the denial of use process.

Updating the meeting room policy helps the County move towards the Supervisors’ goal of an effective County government by allowing for fees to be charged for meeting rooms when the rooms are available.
