Ratify submission of grant application for the Bureau of Justice Assistance FY24 Edward Byrne Memorial Justice Assistance Grant (JAG) Program Local Solicitation in the amount of $12,916 for the replacement of aged computer equipment; and authorize the Sheriff to accept the funds and sign the resulting Revenue Agreement if awarded by the U.S. Department of Justice.

The Board ratified the submission of the FY23 Edward Byrne Memorial JAG application on August 29, 2023.                     

 

Summary of Request

The U.S. Department of Justice, Bureau of Justice Assistance Edward Byrne JAG Program issues an opportunity for local law enforcement agencies to apply for funds each year. The goal of the funding is to provide units of local government with additional personnel, equipment, supplies, contractual support, training, technical assistance, and information technology systems for criminal justice purposes. The allocated funding for the Mendocino County Sheriff’s Office in 2024 is $12,916 and the application deadline is October 16, 2024. The funds will be used to replace aged computer equipment of which is essential to front line law enforcement and support staff. The funding will allow the Sheriff’s Office to avoid degradation of public safety due to inadequate equipment. Approval of the funding will commence the 30-day period during which citizens and neighborhood or community organizations will have the opportunity to comment on the grant application.
