Previous Board/Board Committee Actions:
On January 7, 2025, the Board adopted the Proclamation for the 2025 National Law Enforcement Appreciation Day.
Summary of Request:
As of December 2025, there are over 750,000 sworn law enforcement officers serving in the United States, including 123 dedicated members of the Mendocino County Sheriff’s Office. Other law enforcement agencies in Mendocino County include local Police Departments, the California Highway Patrol, State Parks, CalFire, Bureau of Land Management, Department of Fish and Wildlife, United States Forest Service and Federal Drug Enforcement. From January 1, 2025, through November 30, 2025, there were 51 law enforcement officers feloniously killed in the line of duty; a near 6 percent decrease compared to the prior year.
This National day of appreciation for law enforcement officers allows us to express gratitude and appreciation to the law enforcement officers who serve and protect communities, often putting their lives at risk. The day highlights the sacrifices made by officers, including long hours, stressful situations, and the personal risks they undertake to ensure public safety. Everyone is encouraged to thank an officer for their service on this day and throughout the year.
