Summary of Request:
Historically, the Mendocino County coastal Emergency Winter Shelter was operated by Mendocino Coast Hospitality Center (MCHC) with support from local churches. Due to COVID restrictions, this support was discontinued. The City of Fort Bragg recognized the need for an Emergency Winter Shelter on the coast, and stepped up to fill this need. On November 18, 2022, Mendocino County entered into Purchasing Agent Agreement No. PA-23-53, SS-22-083 with the City of Fort Bragg to provide emergency shelter services on the coast during extreme weather. This Emergency Winter Shelter is a limited-term support for inclement weather and is used only when the local shelter is full. The project is staffed by the City of Fort Bragg through their Police Department. Services also include Homeless Management Information System entry by MCHC.
The proposed Amendment to Agreement No. PA-23-53, SS-22-083 provides additional funds for additional and continued services due to severe winter storms. The additional funds include $25,000 from the City of Fort Bragg, and $25,000 from the County. Funds for services will be utilized in the following order: 1) initial expenditure of $39,908 from County funds; 2) match funding of $25,000 from City of Fort Bragg funds; and 3) additional expenditure of $25,000 from County funds.
Alternative Action/Motion:
