Previous Board/Board Committee Actions:

The 2025 Proclamation for National Public Safety Telecommunicators Week in Mendocino County was adopted by the Board on April 8, 2025.

Summary of Request

Public Safety Telecommunicators (Dispatchers) serve as the first and often only point of contact for individuals seeking immediate assistance during an emergency. Their role requires them to quickly assess each call, determine the nature of the situation, identify the appropriate resources, and coordinate the response. At times, they must manage complex rescue efforts while simultaneously entering critical information into advanced computer systems. Throughout these high-stress situations, dispatchers are expected to remain calm, composed, courteous, and professional as they provide life-saving guidance to callers awaiting the arrival of first responders. This essential service must be staffed and operational 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year.

Recognizing and celebrating the dedication of these professionals is vital. With deep appreciation, Mendocino County honors the invaluable, and often unseen contributions of all public safety dispatchers within our county and across the nation. The Sheriff’s Office encourages the community to join in acknowledging their service during National Public Safety Telecommunicators Week, observed April 12-18, 2026.
