Adopt Resolution pursuant to Caltrans/California Highway Patrol’s Joint Policy Guidelines for Special Events on State Conventional Highways in order to obtain a permit from Caltrans for the Elk Volunteer Fire Department’s “Great Day in Elk” Parade, to be held in Elk, California, on Saturday, August 24, 2024, from 12:00 p.m. until 1:00 p.m.; direct the Clerk of the Board to forward copies of the Resolution to the District Permit Coordinator, Caltrans (Eureka), the California Highway Patrol, and the Elk Volunteer Fire Department; and authorize Chair to sign same.

The Board of Supervisors has annually adopted a Resolution in support of the “Great Day in Elk” parade. The last action of the Board was on July 25, 2023.
Summary of Request:
Annually, the Elk Volunteer Fire Department organizes a parade on Highway One through Elk, preceding the “Great Day in Elk” town fair and fundraising event for the Elk Community Center. In order to obtain a permit from Caltrans for the parade, a letter of support is required from the California Highway Patrol and Sheriff, along with a Resolution from the Board of Supervisors and a certificate of insurance from the Elk Volunteer Fire Department’s insurance carrier, pursuant to Caltrans/California Highway Patrol’s Joint Policy Guidelines for Special Events on State Conventional Highways
