Previous Board/Board Committee Actions:

On April 22, 2025, the Board approved the 2024-2025 retroactive award acceptance from the Northern California Coalition to Safeguard Communities Program in the amount of $170,631.

Summary of Request

The Sheriff’s Office has partnered with Humboldt, Siskiyou, Lake, and Trinity counties to establish the Northern California Coalition to Safeguard Communities Program (NCCSC). The Center to Combat Human Trafficking recognizes that law enforcement agencies in Northern California do not have adequate financial resources to independently address criminal activity by drug trafficking organizations. The Center to Combat Human Trafficking, through the NCCSC, has provided financial and technical assistance needed to continue to support these agencies.

The anticipated amount of the award is $254,716 for the period of August 1, 2025, through July 31, 2026. If awarded, the funds will be used to provide staff to help combat human trafficking, provide related training and materials, and laptop technology.

On March 25, 2025, the Sheriff’s Office sent a letter to the CEO requesting retroactive approval to apply to closely meet the application deadline, as per County Policy 25, with a follow-up request for Board approval during a subsequent meeting. The CEO approved the request on March 26, 2025.
