Summary of Request

The Mendocino Town Plan currently includes as an appendix an Inventory of Historic Structures originally developed in 1979 and incorporated into the Coastal Element, which acknowledged at the time that the inventory was incomplete.

A group of community volunteers, including former Kelley House Museum leadership and local historians, has completed a comprehensive update to this inventory. The updated inventory compiles structures within the Mendocino Historic Preservation District (Zone A) and includes documented sources supporting the earliest known construction dates for each property, based on verifiable records such as Sanborn maps, aerial photography, newspaper archives, and County records.

A formal request has been submitted to the County, signed by all chairpersons of the Mendocino Historical Review Board since 2010, requesting that the updated inventory be incorporated into County planning processes and used in evaluating development within the district.

This item authorizes transmission of the updated inventory to the Planning and Building Services Department for review and directs Planning and Building Services to return to the Board to discuss the process to revise Appendix 1 of the Mendocino Town Plan, Chapter 4.13 of the Coastal Element of the General Plan
