Summary of Request

The Human Resources Department is charged, as part of the overall maintenance of the classification and compensation plan, to evaluate current classifications, create new classifications (including appropriate salary levels), reclassify positions, examine requests for salary grade adjustments, analyze allocations, and make recommendations for additions, modifications, and corrections.

Human Resources conducted a classification study for Position No. 1946, Administrative Assistant, at the request of the Executive Office.  As a result of the study, it was determined that the incumbent performs assignments that are more technical and analytical in nature, and more complex and responsible than duties typically performed by Administrative Assistants throughout the County.  The incumbent’s duties and assignments are in line with duties generally associated with the Administrative Analyst series.  These assignments are essential to the department and cannot be assigned to other analytical staff within the office.

The reclassification of the affected incumbent to Administrative Analyst I was approved by the Civil Service Commission on June 21, 2017.  Any costs associated will be absorbed within the department’s existing budget allocation.

Alternative Action/Motion:

Direct staff to study alternatives.
