Recommended Action/Motion:
recommendation
Approve Agreement with the Friends of the Mendocino County Museum (FOTMCM) to assume the operation and management of the Mendocino County Museum Gift Shop and Museum Admissions Desk and eliminate General Admission Fee to enable FOTMCM to fully manage visitor operations effective November 15, 2024; and authorize Chair to sign same.
End
Previous Board/Board Committee Actions:
In February 2024 Mendocino County Board of Supervisors directed Museum staff to proceed with exploring the feasibility of implementing a new model of operation for the Mendocino County Museum and directed the Museum Ad Hoc Committee to work with community members on moving the museum forward along the lines of the Kern County Museum model with the intent of bringing back a transition plan and Memorandum of Understanding to create a long-term funding plan between the County of Mendocino, the City of Willits and other partners.
Summary of Request:
Approval of this agreement and elimination of the General Admission Fee will allow the Friends of the Mendocino County Museum to assume the management of the Museum Gift Shop and Museum Admissions Desk. Mendocino County Museum will partner with the FOTMCM, a non-profit organization to move the Museum forward as directed along the lines of the Kern County Model. This agreement will alleviate the dependency on Museum staff to serve in the Gift Shop and Admissions Desk capacity and will provide the FOTMCM with the opportunity to improve and expand the gift shop, increasing revenue that can benefit Museum programs and operations. All other Mendocino County Museum Fees will not be impacted by this.
Alternative Action/Motion:
Do not approve the Agreement.
