Summary of Request

The Orr Springs Road Fuels Reduction Project is a comprehensive, two-phase initiative funded by the FEMA Hazard Mitigation Grant Program (HMGP) to reduce wildfire risks along Orr Springs Road and Comptche-Ukiah Road. The project will cover both road segments, from the eastern end of Orr Springs Road to the western end of Comptche-Ukiah Road, to address wildfire hazards effectively.

The project’s primary goal is to create safe routes for residents to enter and exit during wildfires and other emergencies by enhancing safety and reducing the chances of blocked or impassable roads during fires. The project seeks to minimize the potential loss of life and property. Additionally, it aims to improve access for firefighting personnel during fire incidents, thereby enhancing their response and suppression efforts.

This agreement contracts with a qualified consultant to carry out the Phase I scope of work. This phase includes conducting a route survey to identify and mark trees for removal, contacting landowners of approximately 183 parcels in the project area to secure access agreements as need, and developing a project operations and maintenance plan. Furthermore, revised project maps will be created to identify landowners who did not agree to provide property access and complete the necessary CEQA environmental review actions.
