Recommended Action/Motion:
recommendation
Adopt resolution of the Mendocino County Board of Supervisors authorizing submission of a grant application for the Caltrans AIP Matching Grant for updating the APMP for the Round Valley Airport and authorizing the Director of Transportation to accept the grant and execute the grant Agreement on behalf of Mendocino County; and authorize Chair to sign same.
End
Previous Board/Board Committee Actions:
By Resolution Number (No.) 20-159 (November 17, 2020), the Board approved the Airport Capital Improvement Plans for Little River and Round Valley Airports. By Resolution No. 23-142 (July 25, 2023), the Board approved grant funding through the FAA’s AIP program for updating the APMP for Round Valley Airport.
Summary of Request:
In order to justify funding for pavement projects, the County must prepare and update an Airport Pavement Management Plan (APMP), which provides FAA with data regarding the current condition of the airport’s pavements and professional recommendations for pavement maintenance, rehabilitation, and repair. Since Round Valley Airport has recently been classified as a General Aviation facility, FAA has requested DOT update the APMP at this time. DOT is requesting authorization to submit an AIP grant application to complete the update. Caltrans DOA offers 5% AIP matching funds to assist airports with local match requirements. Caltrans DOA AIP matching funds are not guaranteed, as they are awarded on a first-come, first-serve basis following the award of FAA grants. DOT requests authorization to apply for AIP matching funds from Caltrans DOA and authorize the Director of Transportation to accept the grant and execute the grant agreement on behalf of Mendocino County if awarded. This resolution will accept the 5% match through Caltrans (approximately $2,475).
Alternative Action/Motion:
Do not approve the Resolution and provide direction to staff.
