Summary of Request

On December 14, 2021, the Mendocino County Board of Supervisors (BOS) approved investing one-time Pacific Gas and Electric (PG&E) disaster settlement funds in the amount of $1,000,000 to fund Mendocino County Association of Fire Districts (MCAFD). Through this approval, each of the twenty-two districts will receive $45,454.55 for various purchases and projects according to the BOS approved MCAFD PG&E Settlement Allocations. The BOS approved Piercy Fire Protection District’s (Piercy FPD) proposal to purchase radios, hoses, repairs, gear, and tools.

Since the BOS approval on December 14, 2021, Piercy FPD determined funds would be more appropriately utilized for purchase of a newer Type 3 Engine. Piercy FPD’s current Engine is old, transferred from the US Forest Service, and does not function well enough to ensure adequate response and proper services to the community. Piercy FPD has located a newer Type 3 Engine in Sacramento priced at $68,585, and is prepared to utilize PG&E funds and Piercy FPD savings to make the purchase.

Staff is seeking BOS approval of the revised proposal reallocating $45,454.55 towards the purchase of a newer Type 3 Engine. This proposal change does not affect the BOS’s total PG&E settlement funds allocated to Piercy FPD.
