Recommended Action/Motion:

recommendation

Introduce and waive first reading of Ordinance to repeal and replace Chapter 2.14 of Title 2 of the Mendocino County Code entitled “Compensation and Mileage for Grand Jurors and Petit Jurors.”

End

Previous Board/Board Committee Actions:

On August 18, 2020, the Board of Supervisors approved Ordinance No. 4466 - “Amending Chapter 2.14 of Title 2 of the Mendocino County Code Entitled “Compensation and Mileage for Grand Jurors and Petit Jurors” in order to change compensation. No further updates were made.

Summary of Request

The current language in the Code is outdated and inaccurate. The provisions related to the amount of compensation will be removed and replaced with a resolution, thereby enabling compensation updates in the future without the cost and time required to bring an ordinance amendment forward.  Petit Juror compensation has been deleted, as compensation is made by the Court system, not the County.

These changes have been reviewed by the current Grand Jury and they have approved of them.

Alternative Action/Motion:

Do not approve and provide direction to staff.
