Hold the public hearing and adopt the Resolution approving Agricultural Preserve No. A_2023-0001, authorizing the placement of approximately two hundred and fifty (250±) acres into an Agricultural Preserve and Williamson Act Contract for the lands of Paul Sousa, in the Willits area (APNs: 108-120-17, -11, 108-150-06, 103-180-08, & 108-181-01); and authorize Chair to sign same.

Summary of Request:
The Applicant, Paul Sousa, requests establishment of an Agricultural Preserve and Williamson Act Contract over 250± acres, zoned Agricultural and Rangeland in the Willits area (APNs: 108-120-17, -11, 108-150-06, 103-180-08, & 108-181-01). The land is used for cattle, horse, sheep, and goat grazing. The request is consistent with the Policies and Procedures for Agricultural Preserves and Williamson Act Contracts. The request was unanimously recommended for approval to the Board of Supervisors by the Planning Commission at their meeting on November 16, 2023.

Alternative Action/Motion:
Deny the request for establishment of an Agricultural Preserve and Williamson Act Contract over (APNs: 108-120-17, -11, 108-150-06, 103-180-08, & 108-181-01), finding the Project to be inconsistent with the goals and policies of the General Plan and/or the applicable sections of the Mendocino County Code, with respect to criteria necessary for inclusion into an Agricultural Preserve as found in Mendocino County’s Policies and Procedures for Agricultural Preserves and Williamson Act Contracts. Provide direction to staff.
