Previous Board/Board Committee Actions:

On November 9, 2021 the Board adopted Resolution 21-156, which included the Community Wildfire Protection Plan Update.

Summary of Request

The purpose of the Community Wildfire Protection Plan is to increase resilience to disasters and reduce or eliminate long-term impacts such as loss of life, injury, damage to and loss of property, suffering, and hardship, by lessening the impact of future disasters.

The Community Wildfire Protection Plan (CWPP) serves as a strategic framework to reduce wildfire risk to local communities, infrastructure, and natural resources.  It identifies and prioritizes areas for fuel reduction, supports emergency response planning, and strengthens coordination among agencies. By engaging the community in preparedness efforts, the CWPP enhances overall wildfire resilience and helps secure eligibility for related state and federal funding.

The Community Wildfire Protection Plan was developed in collaboration with the Mendocino County Office of Emergency Services, Mendocino County Fire Safe Council (MCFSC), CalFIRE, The California Governor's Office of Emergency Services (CalOES), the Mendocino County Resource Conservation District, tribal partners, the City of Ukiah, the City of Willits, U.S. Forest Service (USFS), California State Parks, Mendocino County Office of Education, Pacific Gas & Electric Company, major timber landowners in the county, the Mendocino County Fire Chiefs Association, neighborhood fire safe councils, and local fire agencies.

Accepting the Community Wildfire Protection Plan will provide the public with a roadmap for more effective county wide wildfire readiness.
