Summary of Request

In the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic, many children in California are behind on their routine immunizations. In addition, immunization rates against COVID-19 in the 5-11 year old population remain low. To address this, California Department of Public Health (CDPH) is providing time-limited funds to hire or designate staff to support immunizations in schools.

On June 28, 2022, CDPH alerted the Mendocino County Department of Public Health (PH) of Centers for Disease Control and Prevention Crisis Response: COVID-19 Public Workforce funding available through the American Rescue Plan Act of 2021, P.L. 117-2. This funding is intended to establish, expand, train, and sustain a response-ready public health workforce at Center for State, Tribal, Local, and Territorial Support levels. Additionally, CDPH is providing an accompaniment to the Workforce Development (WFD) Safe Schools Direct Allocation with Immunization Champions Program funding to support schools and immunizations.

On September 1, 2022, PH returned the required grant application to CDPH to secure the funding allocation. As a result, PH is requesting Board of Supervisors ratification of submission of the grant application, and adoption of Resolution authorizing submission of grant application and acceptance of funds, and authorizing the Public Health Director to sign the resulting Allocation Agreement and any amendments that do not exceed the maximum possible amount of $117, 300.End
