Summary of Request:
In response to President Biden’s Executive Order 13985, Advancing Racial Equity and Support for Underserved Communities Through the Federal Government, and Governor Newsom’s Executive Order N-16-22 directing State agencies to take critical actions on equity and discrimination, the GARE governmental jurisdiction membership strengthens the County’s commitment to achieving racial equity, focuses on the power and influence of our institutions, and works in partnership with our community. As stated by both these Executive Orders, advancing equity is not a one-year project, but it is a generational commitment that will require sustained leadership and partnership with all communities. Equitable outcomes require equitable operations.
The Government Alliance on Race and Equity (GARE) is a national network of governments working to achieve racial equity and advance opportunities for all. GARE’s Membership Network is composed of over 400 jurisdictions of local and regional government’s work to advance racial equity. GARE builds and strengthens the connections between members to quickly access each other’s knowledge and expertise to achieve better, more effective outcomes at scale. GARE is a national organization dedicated to advancing racial equity in government and increasing opportunities for all communities. GARE is building the field of practice to advance racial equity within and through the government. GARE offers measurement and evaluation tools, self-paced online learning, and strategic partnerships.
The Department of Public Health requests the Board of Supervisors' support and approval to apply for the GARE membership application on behalf of the County of Mendocino. GARE membership supports the County in strengthening the capacity of staff and County leadership, advancing equity infrastructure, and creating equity throughout the County’s policies, procedures, and culture, in alignment with the Mendocino County Strategic Plan: 2022-2027.
