Previous Board/Board Committee Actions:

On January 25, 2022, the Board approved a Proclamation for the 2022 National Law Enforcement Appreciation Day.

Summary of Request

As of 2023, there are over 800,000 sworn law enforcement officers serving in the United States. The Mendocino County Sheriff’s Office currently has 105 sworn law enforcement officers. Other law enforcement agencies in Mendocino County include local Police Departments, California Highway Patrol, State Parks Officers, CalFire Officers, Bureau of Land Management Officers, Department of Fish and Wildlife Officers, United States Forest Service Officers and Federal Drug Enforcement Officers. From January 1, 2023 through October 31, 2023 there were 51 law enforcement officers killed in the line of duty; a 5.6 percent decrease compared to the number of officers killed during the same period in 2022. Many factors play into the constant danger that law enforcement officers are faced with. This National Day of Appreciation for Law Enforcement Officers allows us to recognize all officers who serve our County and our Nation. Everyone is encouraged to thank an officer for their service on this day and all throughout the year.
