Summary of Request

Point Arena City Hall is co-located at the County-owned Point Arena Veteran’s Memorial Building pursuant to a 1986 agreement that also places the City in charge of scheduling activities in the building. The building also houses a substation of the Mendocino County Sheriff’s Office and is utilized by the Coastal Seniors and by the Mendocino County Superior Court as a court facility. In 2014 the City and County discussed transfer of the building to the City for one dollar provided future priority for use by Veterans’ organizations and continued use by the County, Coastal Seniors and Superior Court was assured. The transfer was put on hold when the City decided that it was not financially feasible to assume the cost of building repair and maintenance. The City and Coastal Seniors have recently discussed the possibility of applying for a Community Development Block Grant Planning and Technical Assistance Grant to conduct a comprehensive study of expanding, upgrading and renovating the building to better serve all current and potential future users. The City of Point Arena has requested a letter or resolution in support of the grant application and eventual completion of the proposed transfer. The attached resolution provides the requested support and conveys the County’s commitment of a future sale and transfer of ownership of the Veteran’s Memorial Building provided continued priority use for Veterans’ organizations and continued use by the County, Coastal Seniors and the Superior Court is assured.
