Summary of Request

Mendocino County currently contracts with Mendocino Coast Hospitality Center (MCHC) to provide shelter services and related resources to clients on the north coast, to address the needs of the Mendocino County Department of Social Services (MCDSS) General Assistance (GA) clients and Adult Protective Services (APS) clients, and all Mendocino County persons who are at risk of, or currently experiencing homelessness. MCHC provides beds, meals, shower and laundry facilities, phone access, mail delivery, other amenities, outreach, and housing assistance to qualified individuals.

In Fiscal Year (FY) 22-23, from July 2022 through December 2022, MCHC provided a total of 4,389 bed nights of shelter, for an average of 731 bed nights per month. This average bed night count of 731 is an increase of 141 bed nights from the average bed night count over the same amount of time in FY 2021-22. During this time period, MCHC also provided showers to individuals experiencing homelessness, for a total of 2,796 showers, for an average of 466 showers per month. MCHC also provided laundry services, for a total of 1,864 loads of laundry washed and dried by persons using this service, for an average of 310 laundry loads per month. Additionally, MCHC served 7,907 meals to persons in need, for a monthly average of 1,317 meals. These figures illustrate the community need for these services, and show the direct impact of funds provided to MCHC for this purpose.
