Previous Board/Board Committee Actions:

The Board of Supervisors regularly issues support letters that align with the 2025 Legislative Platform. These letters advocate for adequate and ongoing federal and state funding, timely distribution of resources, increased local authority, and flexibility in administering and providing services.

Summary of Request

The Mendocino County Board of Supervisors urges immediate action from federal representatives to reauthorize the Older Americans Act (OAA) and restore funding to the Area Agency on Aging (AAA) for Lake and Mendocino Counties. The agency faces a funding shortfall of nearly $1 million from January 1, 2025, to June 30, 2025. This shortfall resulted from the federal government's failure to reauthorize the Older Americans Act (OAA) in the Continuing Resolution on December 20, 2024. Consequently, the areas’ seniors risk losing essential services, including Meals on Wheels, other meal programs, the Long-Term Care Ombudsman, and the Family Caregiver Support Program.
