Summary of Request:
The County jail has 300+ inmates housed in its facility on any given day. Meals are served three times a day. Meal preparation will soon include meals for the Juvenile Hall inmates as well. The current cooking equipment has reached the end of its usefulness. Repair costs and parts outweigh the cost of replacing the equipment. The replacement cost for three HD Ranges and three Safety System Moveable Gas Connectors are $22,517.01. The quote does not include sales tax of 8.875%; the quote with $1,998.38 tax comes to $24,515.39. In the 2018-19 budgeting process, Mendocino County Sheriff’s Office (MCSO) budgeted $20,000 for this expense. The bids received came in higher than anticipated. The request will increase appropriations for fixed assets-equipment and revenue asset forfeiture by $4,515.39 for the unanticipated portion of the planned purchase of the three stoves. The budgeted source of funds ($20,000) is from 760201 State Asset Seizure. The equipment purchased will be added to the County’s list of fixed assets.
