Summary of Request

This grant will help to stop sediment pollution in critical salmon spawning habitat in lower Tenmile Creek and to heal gullies in meadows to restore the hydrology and to facilitate native grass restoration.  The Vassar property that is being treated can be a demonstration show case for meadow restoration and help the community envision how grasslands can be restored at the Tenmile Creek watershed scale. Funding for grassroots restoration projects employ local workers are needed because the community of Laytonville is economically disadvantaged and the restoration funding helps support the local economy.  The meadows that will be restored by the project will also have prescribed fire applied that will include cooperative efforts involving neighbors and it is hoped that these efforts can be sustained into the future, in the mode of land management by Native Americans historically.
